What is Yoga Mindset Coaching?
Yoga Mindset Coaching addresses how thoughts manifest in the physical body. YMC is grounded in the Internal Family Systems model, founded by Richard Schwartz. Schwartz views each person as having multiple sub-personalities we call "parts." For example, "A part of me wants to go to a friend's party, but another part of me wants to stay home and read a book." One "part" may be active at a time or there may be multiple "parts" involved.
It is believed that each part has an important role in our psychological system. Parts work to help us and are always good, but sometimes they can become exhausted or overactive in their role, they can have strong feelings, or get stuck in an old belief that is no longer true or helpful, and sometimes parts are in conflict with one another. When parts get overactive, they manifest as sensations in our bodies - feelings like gut pain, tight muscles, aches, headaches and often times, a tornado of negative thoughts.
Yoga Mindset Coaching provides a space for clients to identify active parts and to find relief from the physical symptoms and negative thought patterns. Through a combination of guided self-inquiry using the Internal Family Systems model, yoga asana, breath work, and meditation; clients experience an increase in what Richard Schwartz calls self-led energy (confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness).
